What do HIPAA and Windows XP mean for your medical office?

Microsoft phased out support for Windows XP during the first week of April 2014.  Even though XP has been around for over 12 years, a high percentage of computers still run the operating system.

HIPAA requires a current and updated operating system, which is a standard Windows XP no longer meets.  This requirement means that Windows XP computers can no longer be connected to your network and cannot hold any patient data.
